Sep 30, 2008 10:43
The St. Andrews Episcopal Cathedral Choir will
perform Motet No. 1, Singet den Herren ein neues
Lied by J. S. Bach and the Musicalisches
Exequien (German Requiem) of Heinrich Schütz at
7:30 P.M. this evening at St. James Episcopal Church
on Oak Ridge Drive.
Both numbers will be sung in German. This is a rare opportunity to hear two masterpieces of the high and early Baroque periods, respectively.
The concert is a benefit concert for the Mississippi Academy of Ancient Music, a non-profit organization that brings world-class early music groups to Jackson on a regular basis. Although no admission will be charged, concertgoers are strongly encouraged to make a donation at the door.

The following clip of the Musicalisches Exequien is from the spring 2008 performance by the Cathedral Choir. Listen
This is a big deal. Be there.
Disclosure: I’m a member of the choir.
